Letter deliveries have changed

From 15 April 2024, estimated delivery timeframes for regular and priority letters have changed. Please note, letters may be delivered earlier than the timeframes shown on our website as we make progressive delivery model changes across the country through to the end of 2025.

Sending a letter within Australia

Letters sent within Australia can only contain flexible items no thicker than 5mm for small letters and no thicker than 20mm for large letters. If your letter is larger than our maximum size and weight, or contains rigid or inflexible material, it will be considered a parcel

Choose from 3 delivery speeds

Delivery times vary depending on the delivery speed you choose, the size of your letter, and where you’re sending from and where you’re sending to.

Letter size and weight guide to send within Australia

Check our guide to confirm if your item can be sent as a small letter/postcard, large letter, or seasonal greeting card including a Christmas card. If your letter is larger than our maximum size and weight, it will be considered a parcel. If you need assistance to weigh your letter, please visit your local Post Office.

Note, inflexible items such as keys, pens and USBs shouldn’t be sent in regular paper envelopes as they can get damaged in our sorting machines. These items must be sent as a parcel in a tough bag or padded bag.

Underpaid mail

When using red street posting boxes, you must apply the correct postage for your items. If we detect that your mail was posted with insufficient postage, we may invoice you the difference plus an admin fee.
