Current processing times are available through the Australian Passport Office. They will email you when they despatch your passport. Allow 5-6 business days for delivery.

A parent, or somebody with parental responsibility, can lodge a child passport application. If aged 16 or 17, the child applicant(s) must come to the Post Office too. Find out more about child passports.
Standard adult passports are valid for 10 years. Applicants aged 75 years and over can apply for 5 year validity. Find out more about adult passports.
When you attend your passport application appointment, and once your application has been lodged, you’ll need to pay your passport application fee. We accept payments by cash, MasterCard, Visa, AMEX, or EFTPOS. This fee is a non-refundable administration fee.
Use our online booking tool to see if your nearby Post Office accepts walk-ins or requires an appointment, then book if you need to. You don't need to book for renewals or photos.

We can take passport photos suitable for New Zealand passports. However, only some of our Post Offices that take passport photos can supply an emailed digital copy of your photo - which will be needed to complete your New Zealand passport renewal online.

Be sure to note that New Zealand passport photos differ to those for Australian passport photos. Please let our staff know that you need photos suitable for a New Zealand passport.
Post Offices that offer instant passport and ID photos can take photos of children and infants. Our staff will use their best efforts to take photos that meet necessary guidelines, however it is not always easy to take passport compliant photos of infants or children.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade requires that all Australian passport photos are taken against a pale background, irrespective of the person’s age. If your child needs to be held due to age or other circumstances, it may be difficult to use our supplied backdrop. For this reason, please bring a white baby blanket or wrap (or similar) with you to use as a backdrop if required.

Australia Post cannot track the progress of your passport application while it’s being processed. The Australian Passport Office will send an email and an SMS with a registered post tracking number when they despatch your passport and we can then track its delivery. Check current processing times.
Generally, if you’re applying for a new or renewed Australian passport you’ll need to lodge your application at a passport-accredited Post Office.
When we take passport and ID photos for you, we'll make sure they comply with passport standards.
Most authorities require a photo that is less than 6 months old. If you submit your photo to the relevant passport authority within the necessary timeframe, but for some reason your photos aren't accepted, simply bring them back to the same Post Office and we'll replace them at no cost.
