Please be aware of potential scams involving Gift Cards.
Persons claiming to be from government departments, agencies and other bodies including the ATO, Director of Public Prosecutions and the Department of Home Affairs are making payment demands for fake debts or fines in the form of Gift Cards or iTunes/GooglePlay cards. These demands are often made via phone call or email.
No matter how believable they may look or sound, only a scammer will ask for Gift Cards as payment. We would never ask for payment in the form of a Gift Card.
If you’ve been contacted or believe you’ve been affected by a scam of this kind, immediately notify your local police and visit the Scamwatch website.
For scams involving iTunes cards, also notify AppleCare on 1300 321 456 (advise the AppleCare agent you believe you have been the victim of a scam).
