"Our partnership with Australia Post has allowed WA Police to take advantage of existing Australia Post infrastructure and experience with proof-of-identity services which, in turn, is enabling WA Police to have a greater focus on local policing priorities."
- John Purcell, Assistant Director for the Office of Information Management, Western Australia Police

Background

WA Police is responsible for policing the largest single police jurisdiction in the world. In partnership with CrimTrac, it also undertakes the national criminal history record check component of national police clearance (NPC) applications, detailing a person's disclosable criminal and traffic conviction record.

Challenge

WA Police wanted to reduce internal administration pressures and improve service levels when processing NPC applications.

Solution

NPC applications are handled securely and efficiently, using Australia Post's extensive retail network, online form data capture technology and in-person identity check services.

Results

The NPC identity check service is offered at 334 Australia Post retail outlets in WA. Customers receive "Initial clear" NPC certificates in only three to five days and less administration means more officers can be deployed to the front line.
