First-time applicants* can apply for a learner's permit for a car, motorcycle or moped at participating Post Offices.
- Complete a licence application form
- Keys for Life
If you have Keys for Life, you will only need to complete a computerised theory test (CTT) if the Keys for Life certificate is more than 2 years old. Otherwise, Australia Post can process your application (including your eyesight test) and issue you with an initial learner's permit and log book.
If you don't have Keys for Life you can submit your application and pay for the CTT at a participating Post Office. You'll need to visit a Driver and Vehicle Services centre to complete your CTT.
- Pass your computerised theory test at a Driver and Vehicle Services centre
To prepare for your theory test, you should study the Drive Safe or Ride Safe materials, which are available at participating Post Offices. You'll need to attend a Driver and Vehicle Services centre to complete your theory test.
- Get your learner's permit
You can complete your eyesight test, pick up your log book, pay your licence fee and get your learner's permit at a participating Post Office.
