Why your clients may need a verification of identity (VOI) check

An identity check helps reduce the risk of fraud by requiring a person to verify their identity as a buyer or seller, and to assist with establishing their authority to buy or sell the nominated land or property.

Selected Australian states have introduced verification of identity legislation for property and land purchase, sale and transfers.

This legislation places responsibility on you as a conveyancing practitioner, lawyer or mortgagee to verify the identity of your clients (the people buying, selling or transferring property).

  • Our VOI online tool helps you securely verify your clients’ identities, record their documents and receive an identity report. Note, your client must be present during verification.
