Unboxing Australia's eCommerce boom
We're thrilled to announce the launch of our 2026 Australia Post eCommerce Report. Last year we saw Australians spend a record $82.6b online - around 24% of all retail - and 9.8 million households (that’s 82% of Aussie homes) shopped online. While volumes are up, basket sizes are dropped to a five-year low ($96) as Aussies shopped online for a bargain.
Expectations continue to rise: 73% of online shoppers say a good delivery experience makes them more likely to choose online, 69% want a wider range of delivery options, and 32% would switch retailers for better pickup options. To help businesses meet these demands we’re expanding our Parcel Locker network and rolling out faster, more flexible delivery services.
This year we’ve also embraced the report’s AI focus with something different – an AI-generated podcast. Using voice clones of both Gary Starr and Aimee Dixon, we explore the report’s insights in a whole new way. The episode dives into emerging trends like agentic commerce, where AI is expected to influence up to 30% of digital transactions by 2030.
We invite you to read the report and listen to our AI podcast. Whether you’re a retailer, small business or industry enthusiast, you’ll find actionable insights on everything from generational shopping patterns to delivery innovation.
