Domestic delivery disruptions and service updates

1 April 2026

On 16 March, a third-party truck caught fire in Western Australia while travelling from Sydney to Perth. The driver is safe, but unfortunately all parcels on board were damaged and could not be safely recovered.

We are working to contact affected senders directly to advise them of the incident. If you sent a parcel and haven’t heard from us, please call 13 76 78.

 If you were expecting to receive a parcel, please contact the sender first, as they are best placed to assist you with available options. If you need further help, visit help and support or call us on 13 76 78.

Severe weather from Tropical Cyclone Narelle may cause delivery delays to and from Western Australia. 

The safety of our people and the community is our priority and we’re working with local teams to monitor the situation. Australia Post may pause our operations and re-commence when it is safe to do so.

There may be some delivery delays across parts of the Northern Territory, due to heavy rain and flooded roads.

South of Darwin, the Katherine region (including Katherine township) and surrounding areas are impacted.

Other affected areas include Alice Springs remote locations and the Daly River and Pulumpa communities.

There may be some delivery delays across parts of Queensland, due to heavy rain and flooded roads. In northern and central Queensland affected areas include the Mt Isa, Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton regions and surrounding areas.

Other areas impacted include Toowoomba, Western Queensland, South Burnett and Sunshine Coast Regions (including Bundaberg, Maryborough, Gympie and surrounding areas).

Due to damage caused by heavy rain and flooding over the weekend, the east–west rail service between Western Australia and the eastern states has been closed. With further severe weather forecast, the line may remain closed for several days.

Delays are expected for items already in transit; however, where possible, these will be transferred to road transport. Items lodged from 23 February onward will be sent by road.
