Digital iD™ platform is no longer available for businesses

Effective 1 May 2026, the Digital iD™ app and platform are no longer available.

Why your clients may need a verification of identity (VOI) check

An identity check helps reduce the risk of fraud by requiring a person to verify their identity as a buyer or seller, and to assist with establishing their authority to buy or sell the nominated land or property.

Selected Australian states have introduced verification of identity legislation for property and land purchase, sale and transfers.

This legislation places responsibility on you as a conveyancing practitioner, lawyer or mortgagee to verify the identity of your clients (the people buying, selling or transferring property).

How we can help with VOI checks

  • Registration includes access to our in-person VOI service, with 1,500+ participating Post Offices nationwide.
  • Our VOI online tool helps you securely verify your clients’ identities, record their documents and receive an identity report. Note, your client must be present during verification.
  • After a VOI check, you’ll receive an electronic confirmation and verification report.

Why your clients should complete a VOI check with us

  • Our VOI checks meet the identity standards set by the Australian Registrars National Electronic Conveyancing Council (ARNECC).

  • We offer in-person identity verification at 1,500+ participating Post Offices. Appointments are not required for identity checks.

  1. Provide your client with a Land Title Verification of Identity Form from the VOI portal. You can also provide them with our How to verify your identity with Australia Post (PDF 680kb).
  2. Ensure your client brings the correct proof of identity documents for the highest category.
  3. Have your client complete the Verification of Identity Form (and Client Authorisation Form if needed) but ensure they do not sign or date it, as their signature must be witnessed by an Australia Post Identity Verifier.
  4. Instruct your client to take the completed form/s and proof of identity documents to a participating Post Office. No appointment is needed for an identity check.

  • For identity checks done using our ‘do it yourself’ VOI tool, the report is usually available in your VOI Report portal within 15 minutes from when we receive your payment.
  • For VOI checks completed through our in-store service, participating Post Offices generally provide your VOI report within 15 minutes of your client finishing their identity check.

For more information about VOI requirements, visit the Australian Registrars National Electronic Conveyancing Council (ARNECC).

The Australian Institute of Conveyancers (AIC) state divisions provide regular information and updates regarding VOI requirements.

Your client must provide two original and current Category 1 documents (an expired Australian passport is accepted if it was valid in the past two years and not cancelled).

If they can’t meet Category 1, they must provide documents from the next highest available category.

All documents must show matching personal details. If their name has changed, they must include a change of name document.

Passports, driver licences or birth certificates not in English must be accompanied by a NAATI-accredited translation
