Applying for a new Australian passport
If you’re aged 16 and over, you must apply for a 10-year passport. For children under 16, a 5-year passport is required. Adults aged 75 and over can choose to apply for a 5-year passport instead.
- Complete the online form or pick up an application form at a participating Post Office.
- Get your passport photos taken and get them signed by a referee or guarantor.
- Lodge your application at a participating Post Office.
- Pay your passport application fee. We accept payments by cash, MasterCard, Visa, AMEX or EFTPOS. This fee is a non-refundable administration fee. Passport fees are set by the Australian Passport Office and are subject to change.
Renewing an Australian passport
If you’re aged 16 and over, you must apply for a 10-year passport. Adults aged 75 and over can choose to apply for a 5-year passport instead.
- Complete the online form provided by the government website. Renewal forms are not available at Post Offices.
- Get your passport photos taken at a participating Post Office.
- Lodge your passport renewal application at a participating Post Office.
