Changes in fuel prices result in fluctuating costs for the transport industry, necessitating a variable fuel surcharge which may rise, fall or be removed, depending on the movements in fuel prices.

Australia Post regularly measures the difference between our current fuel buy price and a base price, being our fuel buy price at the time the surcharge was first notified to customers, in August 2017. The fuel surcharge for domestic parcels reflects a weighting of our direct and indirect fuel-related costs to total cost and the monthly average of index spot prices for:

The fuel surcharge will be calculated two months in arrears. For example, the monthly average price for fuel in July is used to determine the applicable surcharge to be reflected in the September invoice.
