Australia Post will never:

  • call, text or email you asking for personal or financial information including password, credit card details or account information
  • call, text or email you to request payment
  • ask you to click on a social media message to organise a courier for your online marketplace listings

Do NOT click on any unexpected/unusual links or open attachments. Delete the message once you have sent it through to us.

Be wary of SMS messages that lure you into clicking on links to resolve delivery issues or pay delivery fees. These links lead to fake Australia Post websites designed to steal your personal and financial details.

How to spot an SMS phishing scam.

Verify your postcode scam

Key message: You are requested to “verify your postcode within 48 hours” to complete the process of a delivery.

Objective: Stealing personal information and credit card details.

Here is one example.

The message includes a shortened link resembling Australia Post and urges the recipient to verify their postcode within 48 hours. High volume scam sent via iMessages and RCS

Key message: You are requested to “select your desired delivery solution”, claiming that the package requires a signature upon delivery.

Note: Messages that ask you to reply (for example, sending ‘Y’ or another response to confirm or proceed) are a common scam tactic. These prompts are designed to trick your device into treating the sender as a trusted contact, allowing malicious links to bypass built‑in protections.

Common Variants Include:

  • “Update your correct address”
  • “Shipment has been suspended due to missing house number”
  • “Incomplete updates will be returned to the sender”

Objective: Stealing personal information and credit card details.

Recommended action:

  • Never reply to the message.
  • Email a screenshot of the message to scams@auspost.com.au and report to Apple/Google. Refer below for more details.

If you received this as an iMessage:

  • Refer to Apple’s recommendations outlined in this article to perform the following actions:
    1. Report the message using the “Delete and Report Junk” feature.
    2. Filter messages to prevent unknown senders from texting you directly.

If you received this to an Android device via rich communication services (RCS):

  • Refer to Google’s recommendations outlined in this article to ‘Block and report spam’

The message appears to be from an unspecified mobile number and claims to be from “AusPost Delivery Service.” It says the delivery team attempted delivery on 22 February for a parcel and provides a tracking ID. It states a signature is required and directs the recipient to click a suspicious-looking link to manage delivery options. The message lists options such as arranging a new home delivery slot or picking up the parcel, and instructs the user to reply “Y” to activate the link. The entire message resembles a phishing attempt.

‘Confirm your address’ scam

Key message: You are requested to “confirm your address” to complete the process of a delivery.

These scam messages are sent impersonating as ‘AusPost’ via the sender ID. Due to the way smart phones group these communications, the scam text would appear together with the legitimate thread of Australia Post messages. 

Objective: Stealing credit card details.

Here is one example.

This is a screenshot of a conversation thread with text messages from "AusPost." The first three messages provide legitimate tracking updates, but the last message, marked with "SCAM SMS," falsely claims the package is at a warehouse and cannot be delivered due to incomplete address information. It includes a link to "auspost.org.cn," a phishing URL designed to look similar to the official Australia Post website.

‘Update your address’ scam

‘Correct address label’ scam
