The years of World War I coincided with the golden age of postcards. In 1914–18 this phenomenon included the production of millions of embroidered silk cards in thousands of designs, made specifically for soldiers from various nations serving far from home. Postcards sent by Australians often featured patriotic symbols, while others were more personal or sentimental. Many became treasured keepsakes of friends and family: more than 60,000 Australians who served in World War I never came home. The numbered medallion is exclusive to the cover, in a limited edition of just 150.
