The little town of Koonoomoo lies in prime fruit-growing country in northern Victoria, on the Goulburn Valley Highway, close to the Murray River. The traditional owners of the town are the Yorta Yorta Bangerang people. The bright red Big Strawberry is located at the eponymous Big Strawberry farm, which is the town’s primary tourist attraction. Visitors can pick strawberries in season and visit the café and shop while children enjoy the playground. The Big Strawberry is more than six metres high and measures five metres in diameter. It was constructed in 2005 to draw visitors to the farm and is made of fibreglass over steel mesh. The intense, glowing red colour is Ford Monza Red – one of the farm owners is a Ford fanatic!
