At 11am on 11 November 1918, fighting ceased on the Western Front after more than four years of bloody warfare. The Great War left between nine and 13 million people dead. Remembrance Day, originally known as Armistice Day, is commemorated every year on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, to remember the sacrifice of men and women who have served in this and subsequent conflicts, including World War II. Anzac Day 1919 was the first following the World War I Armistice of 1918. Some marches were held, but it wasn’t until the 1920s that this became a widespread tradition.
The design of the stamp and cover features an image from a souvenir booklet for Anzac Memorial Day 1919. The minisheet and card design is based on a stamp issued in 1945 to commemorate the end of World War II. This medallion cover features a 1oz silver proof medallion and is a limited edition of just 250. Exclusive to the cover is a minisheet featuring the $1 stamp from the Anzac Day issue of 16 April 2019.
We have identified a printing error on the back cover of the Armistice Limited Edition Prestige Medallion Cover. While the product description correctly states this is a limited edition with a print run of ‘250’ copies, the back cover of the medallion cover incorrectly displays a print run of ‘150’ copies.
We apologise for any confusion this may have caused and assure you that the product's quality and authenticity remain unaffected.
