Postcards are a great way to keep in contact with family and friends. Prepaid postcards can be posted from any red post box located in Australia or at your local Post Office. The town of Bowen is located on the north-east coast of North Queensland in the beautiful Whitsunday Region. This land is important to the Birri, Jangga, Juru, Gia and Ngaro peoples. The tropical climate and fertile alluvial soil are ideal for growing several crops, such as mangoes. The Bowen Mango, also known as Kensington Pride, is a familiar sight in the nation's supermarkets. As a tribute to the industry and advertisement for the region, in 2002 the Whitsunday Shire Council sponsored the construction of the 10-metre high Big Mango. The giant orange fibreglass fruit stands adjacent to the Bowen Visitor Information Centre, four kilometres south of Bowen township, as an eye-catching photo opportunity for tourists travelling the Bruce Highway.
Background information, technical details and gallery images on all our latest stamp issues are available on the Australia Post Collectables website.
