Wanguri is a northern suburb of Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory. It is on the traditional country and waterways of the Larrakia people. The colourful four-metre-long Big Barramundi, which is in the grounds of the Wanguri Primary School, is the creation of Chilean-born Darwin artist Techy Masero. Constructed from steel and cement, the Big Barramundi was completed in 2010, when the intricate mosaic tiles were added with the help of the school's students. The fish species was chosen to honour the traditional Salt-water People, the Larrakia and Wanguri owners of Darwin and north-east Arnhem Land. The fish is named Damibilia, the Larrakia word for Barramundi. The Big Barramundi is the logo of the multi-cultural Wanguri Primary School and the school motto is "hooked on learning".
