Many Australian companies produced radio receivers in the early 20th century, and in the late 1940s some began manufacturing units known as radiograms, which combined an AM radio with a record turntable. The radiogram featured attractive cabinetry and often included storage for vinyl records. Australian brands included Astor, AWA, Kriesler and Aristone, and there was significant local production for well-known international brands such as Philips and His Master’s Voice (HMV). This stamp issue presents two radiograms and one portable record player, which were manufactured in Australia in the 1960s. Showcased are the very popular HMV Caprice (1961), with its two dual-cone, eight-inch speakers encased in maple wood; the high-end Kriesler Master Multi Sonic (1966), a top-of-the-line rose-coloured mahogany unit with eight speakers that include bass, mid-range and high-frequency; and the pale-pink AWA B28 portable record player (1963), aimed at the youth market, which contained AWA’s revolutionary, locally produced silicon transistorised amplifier.

All stamps from Retro Audio stamp issue released on 20 February 2024, affixed to the cover. Featuring an exclusive gold spinning viny-record shaped medallion with enamel fill and direct-to-metal print, made from zinc alloy, minimum gross weight 57g, maximum size 61mm, maximum thickness 3.5mm.
