‘Shark’. Many species of Shark has dreaming stories and cultural narratives connected to each region, all the way to Torres Strait Islands.
John Smith Gumbula began his artistic journey in the winter of 1978 age 10 years old from a hospital bed, diagnosed with a crippling spinal medical condition called Scheuermann’s disease. Many years later John is an Ambassador, Indigenous Leader, and has been a passionate advocate for his people, and culture for over 3 decades working in diverse creative mediums, cultural affairs, education, tech, innovation, and creating cultural bridges of understanding on a world stage. A recipient of the ‘QEII Silver Jubilee Queens Trust Awardee’, and proud member of the WakkaWakka | GurangGurang First Nations people of Queensland & adopted Son of the traditional Yolngu First Nations, Galiwinku, Elcho Island, N.T Australia. John also has the ancient blood-line of the Celtic Irish and Scottish heritage. “My Cultural Heritage proudly resonates passionately in my Heart, Spirit, Life, Keeping Culture Strong and alive, spiritually connecting me to Country”.
