Exmouth is a small coastal town on the tip of the North West Cape, more than 1,000 kilometres north of Perth, Western Australia. The bright orange Big Prawn, which represents a cooked Western King Prawn, is located next to the Ningaloo Visitor Centre. Seven metres tall and weighing 2,000 kilograms, the giant fibreglass-over-steel crustacean was commissioned in 2005 by seafood company MG Kailis and constructed by local resident Brian Paskins. Subsequently donated to the town of Exmouth, the Big Prawn received a refurbishment in 2020. This popular tourist attraction is a tribute to the local wild prawn fishery, which produces 900 tonnes of wild-caught prawns annually.
