Australian Money Orders are only sold in Australia by Australia Post. Money Orders received from overseas can be fraudulent.
If you receive a Money Order as payment for goods or services, you should check the validity of the payment before dispatching any goods or services to the purchaser.
To ensure your Money Order is authentic, simply:
- present it at a Post Office for validation, or
- present it at your bank to deposit it into your account. Money Orders paid into bank accounts are subject to the normal cheque clearance and dishonour processes before payment.
If you are concerned that you may have received a fraudulent money order, you can verify its authenticity by calling Australia Post's Money Order Centre on 1300 362 030.
