Yes, if your business has location or delivery-area data captured in a shapefile, you can upload this data directly into Campaign Targeter to automatically create up to 500 sub-account locations and delivery areas.

When you create a promotional mail campaign with Campaign Targeter, the campaign booking files you download will contain a list of SA1s for you to upload into the Addressed Mail booking system.

Campaign Targeter offers a choice of two services, Unaddressed Mail and Addressed Mail, to meet the needs of your campaign. The campaign summary table will display an estimate of the costs and address counts for your campaign.

If your campaign includes both Unaddressed Mail and Addressed Mail products, delivery lead times will be different. For the latest information about delivery times, check the service guide for Addressed Mail and Unaddressed Mail.

We usually recommend delaying the delivery of Addressed Mail to align with Unaddressed Mail delivery lead times.

The Campaign Targeter tool uses 2 main forms of data to help you plan your promotional mail campaign: delivery point data and customer insights (e.g. demographics, Helix Personas).

For delivery point data, Statistical Area Level 1s (SA1s) are refreshed every quarter. And postal round data is refreshed every two weeks.

Helix Personas are refreshed by Roy Morgan Research, also every quarter.

Postal rounds are used for the Unaddressed Mail service. Each postal round contains on average 1,000 addresses.

Statistical Area Level 1s (SA1s) are used for the Addressed Mail service. Targeting SA1s provides a greater degree of accuracy, allowing you to deliver to an average of 400 addresses (per SA1).

If your business is a franchise or has multiple store locations, you might choose to set up sub-accounts for each store or location.

If you work for an agency or mail house, this is also a handy feature, allowing you to create individual sub-accounts for the customers you manage. You can also assign a user to a sub-account and manage their access permissions according to the needs of your business.

Put simply, a ‘catchment’ is a delivery area. For a promotional mail campaign – like those you can plan using the Campaign Targeter tool – your catchment is the set of addresses to which your promotional mail will be delivered. This could include business, residential and PO Box addresses.

Unaddressed Mail is a bulk mail service that distributes letterbox advertising such as catalogues, flyers and other promotional material. The mail doesn’t include a name or address, and is delivered at a postal round level to business and residential addresses.

Addressed Mail includes an address and a non-personalised salutation, for example ‘To the householder’, and is delivered by address to SA1s – the smallest possible delivery area (average of 400 addresses). Addressed Mail is delivered to residential addresses only. It gives you greater targeting accuracy and more delivery control.

If your promotional mail campaign is restricted by a boundary that you must deliver within, we recommend selecting ‘stay within boundary’ as your catchment preference. Postal rounds or SA1s that cross the boundary will be excluded from the catchment.

If you’d like to reach all addresses within your catchment, and overlapping the boundary line is not a concern for you, we recommend selecting ‘cover all catchment’. This will extend the delivery area beyond the catchment boundary line and therefore include postal rounds and SA1s that cross the boundary line.

The delivery services selected for your campaign are determined by the catchment preferences selected during the mapping process. The table below explains the available options.
