Overview

The countdown to Christmas has already started at Australia Post and we're once again offering our family and friends the chance to work with us during this busy season.

We're looking for friendly and motivated people to work casually in our mail and parcel facilities across Australia between October 2016 and January 2017.

Then simply tell us:

  • the job you want to apply for
  • your preferred work location
  • when you're available to start

If you're shortlisted for a position, we'll get in touch with you about six weeks before your chosen start date with more information.

 

About the application process

* You can only apply using a desktop computer. The recruitment system doesn't work on smart phones or tablets.

* Your application will take 15 minutes to complete.

* You'll need to finalise your application in the one sitting. Unfortunately, it isn't possible to save your application and finish it at a later time.

Job descriptions

For all of our Christmas Casual positions, you'll need to:

  • be able to lift up to 16kg on a repetitive basis
  • handle parcels which may contain meat and/or alcohol products
  • be available 5 days per week (Monday - Friday)

Letter & parcel sorting

 

Responsibilities

  • Sort parcels (manually or machine-assisted). This may involve lifting parcels up to 16kg in weight and requires good memory, speed and accuracy.
  • Commitment to meeting service standard deadlines while preparing parcels for dispatch and delivery
  • Operate equipment such as conveyors, lifting devices and forklifts to load and unload parcels from trucks and vans.
  • Complete and maintain parcel processing records and documentation associated with special services and bulk parcel lodgements.
  • Demonstrate appropriate occupational health and safety practices in the workplace.

Essential requirements

  • To be able to lift up to 16kg of mail on a repetitive basis.
  • Ability to stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.

 

 

Van driving

 

Responsibilities

  • Drive vans safely and efficiently to pick up and deliver mail articles.
  • Unload mail articles from vans and sort as appropriate.
  • Operate equipment to load and unload mail articles from trucks and vans where required.
  • Complete relevant documentation associated with pick-up and delivery of mail articles.
  • Sound knowledge of current state or territory road rules and regulations and awareness of relevant road networks with the ability to interpret a street directory and aptitude to learn and recall geographical locations.
  • Possess sound communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Appropriate knowledge and awareness of occupational health and safety relevant to the position.
  • Capable of handling Australia Post vehicles safely, to our standards.

  • To be able to lift up to 16kg of mail on a repetitive basis.
  • To stand on your feet for the duration of your shift. 
  • Current full drivers licence for the relevant state or territory.

 

 

 

Truck driving

 

Responsibilities

  • Drive trucks safely and efficiently to pick up and deliver ULDs (unit load devices - cages used to transport mail) between operational centres and customer premises.
  • Complete daily vehicle maintenance checks before departure.
  • Complete relevant documentation such as time sheets, vehicle running cards and other documentation as necessary.

Essential requirements

  • Unrestricted heavy rigid (HR) or heavy combination (HC) drivers licence for the relevant state or territory.
  • Capable of handling Australia Post vehicles safely and to our standards.
  • Capable to upgrade licences as required.

Please note:

You may not be eligible to apply for a driving position with us if you've had:

  • a licence cancellation or suspension in the last five years for any reason, or
  • had more than two licence cancellations or suspensions in the last 10 years

Using the recruitment system

Your username is the email address that you used to register in the recruitment system.

What do I do if I've forgotten my password? Click to expand Click to collapse

If you've forgotten your password for the recruitment system:

  • go to the log in page
  • click on 'password forgotten' and enter in your username (the email address you used to register)
  • click 'request password' and your password will emailed to you

What should I do if my email address is already in use? Click to expand Click to collapse

If your email address is already in use in our recruitment system, this means you may have registered for a job with us previously.

If you don't believe this is the case, then check your email address again.

Otherwise, to check your log in details, go to the log in page and click on 'password forgotten'. Then follow the prompts.

How do I reset and change my password? Click to expand Click to collapse

To reset or change your password, go to the log in page and enter in your username (which is the email address you used to register). Then click 'change password' and follow the prompts.

How do I update my personal details within the recruitment system? Click to expand Click to collapse

Once logged in to the recruitment system, click 'personal data'.

From this screen you can update/edit your personal details, including name, address, and contact details.

When I enter my details, the system keeps timing out. What do I do? Click to expand Click to collapse

If you're on the same page for 15 minutes or longer, the system will time out.

Click on the 'refresh' icon in your browser to go back to the log in page.

I keep receiving pop-up blockers on my browser when I try to open a new page. Click to expand Click to collapse

You'll need to disable the pop-up blocker on your web browser.

In the browser itself, go to a 'tools & settings' option (the name vary depending on the browser you're using) and select either 'turn off pop-up blocker' or 'pop-up blocker settings'.

Why do I keep receiving system errors? Click to expand Click to collapse

If you keep getting system errors while using the recruitment system, you may need to clear your cached (stored) internet files.

In your web browser, select the 'clear temporary internet files' option or similar (the name may vary depending on the browser you're using).

How do I open my draft job application to edit it? Click to expand Click to collapse

To edit your job application, go to 'my applications'.

Highlight the application you want to edit and click 'continue display/application'.

A new window will be displayed. Click 'Continue' to make changes to your application.

Otherwise, if a new window doesn't display, check your pop-up blocker settings on your web browser to enable pop-ups.

If I've registered my details more than once, how do I know which one to use? Click to expand Click to collapse

If you've registered using two different email addresses on the system, it's likely you've created two profiles.

If you've only used one of them to apply for a job, we recommend you use that profile and delete any others. Simply click 'delete registration' on the profile you want to delete.

If you've used more than one profile to apply for jobs, you'll have to continue to use the profile you applied through until the application process is complete.

I'm getting error messages on my browser / my browser is not compatible with my system Click to expand Click to collapse

Unfortunately not all web browsers are compatible with our recruitment system. If your browser isn't compatible, you'll get an error message.

Our recruitment system is compatible with the following browsers:

  • Windows 7: Microsoft IE6 - IE9, Mozilla Firefox 3.6, 9.0 & 10.0
  • Windows 8: Microsoft IE9 - IE11
  • Windows 10: Microsoft IE10 - IE11
  • MacOS (Lower than 10.5): Mozilla Firefox 3.6, 9.0 & 10.0
  • MacOS 10.5& 10.6: Mozilla Firefox 3.6, 9.0 & 10.0, Apple Safari 4.0 & 5.0
  • Linux: Mozilla Firefox 3.6 & 10.0
  • Not compatible with tablets or smartphones - all candidates must apply using a PC.

Log in to the recruitment system and go to the 'employment opportunities' section in your profile.

Click on 'my application' to view the status of your application.
