The National Day for War Animals in Australia is observed annually on 24 February. On this day we recognise the important roles that animals have had and continue to play in war. For more than a century, in times of conflict we have relied on animals for transport, logistics, communications and companionship. By wearing the purple poppy we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by countless animals during our country’s involvement in war.
“Australian war animals have demonstrated true valour and an enduring partnership with humans. The bond is unbreakable, their sacrifice great.” — Australian War Animal Memorial Organisation
