Australia Post is celebrating the decisive victory by the Richmond Tigers over the valiant Geelong Cats in the 2020 Toyota AFL Grand Final with the release of the 2020 AFL Premiers stamp and medallion cover. The stamp and medallion cover is limited to just 2,000

With its decisive Grand Final win on 24 October against the valiant Geelong Cats, Richmond took its place among the pantheon of the AFL’s greatest teams. The Tigers’ third victory in four years was played before 29,707 fans at Brisbane’s GABBA. This was the first time since 1991 that the premiership has not been held at the MCG and the first time ever that it has been played outside Victoria.

The Tigers did not always have it their own way – at half-time they were down 15 points, a remarkable feat, given that Richmond hasn’t won a Grand Final while trailing at half time since 1921. In the second half, the indefatigable Tigers streaked to victory, with a final score of Richmond 12.9.81, Geelong 7.8.50. The brilliant Dustin Martin claimed his third Norm Smith Medal, the first man in AFL history to do so. Richmond skipper Trent Cotchin became the first Tiger captain to lead his side to three premierships.

Richmond’s stirring 31-point win was disappointing for retiring Geelong great Gary Ablett, who bravely played through a significant shoulder injury sustained in the opening term.
