If It Packs, It Posts FAQs

What's If It Packs, It Posts?

To help make sending within Australia easier, we’ve introduced a national flat rate packaging and postage range for parcels up to 5kg. It’s called If It Packs, It Posts and it makes it easier to know your postage costs upfront.
If your item fits in anything from our range of If It Packs, It Posts satchels and packaging, and it’s 5kg or under, the postage you pay is based on the size of the packaging you use, not the weight of your item or its destination.

There are four If It Packs, It Posts packaging sizes to choose from – Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. They include Parcel Post and Express Post satchels, our new Express Post Parcel Boxes, plus a range of Australia Post boxes, tough bags and padded mailers.

You no longer need to know how much your item weighs and where in Australia it’s going to work out the postage price of what you’re sending.  As long as it’s 5kg or under, once you know your packaging size and delivery speed, you know your postage cost.

Prefer to use your own packaging? We also have new tiered national flat rates for BYO packaging. As long as your packed item is 5kg or under (actual weight or cubic weight equivalent, whichever is greater), you can send it anywhere in Australia for a tiered flat rate based on four weight ranges.

Is all Australia Post packaging eligible for If It Packs, It Posts postage?

No. Only satchels and packaging from the If It Packs, It Posts range are eligible for If It Packs, It Posts national flat rate postage.

If you use other Australia Post packaging, your postage will continue to be based on the delivery speed you choose, the weight of your item (actual weight or cubic weight equivalent, whichever is greater) and its destination.

Can I use If It Packs, It Posts packaging if my item weighs more than 5kg?

Yes, you can use If It Packs, It Posts packaging to send items up to 22kg, but you won’t be eligible for If It Packs, It Posts flat rate postage if it’s over 5kg.  Your postage will depend on the weight of your item (actual weight or cubic weight equivalent, whichever is greater), its destination and the delivery speed you choose.

Can I still use prepaid satchels I bought before If It Packs, It Posts was introduced?

Yes, of course. If you have any of our previous weight-based satchels, you can use them to access our new sized-based sending solution. For example, the previous 500g satchel will be treated as a Small, the 1kg satchel will be treated as a Medium, the 3kg satchel will be treated as a Large and the 5kg satchel will treated as an Extra Large.

With the new If It Packs, It Posts national flat rates, you’ll now be able to pack up to 5kg in, no matter what size your previous prepaid satchel is.

Here’s how our new size-based system for Parcel Post and Express Post satchels compares to the previous weight-based system:
