How to post your letter
- Complete the lodgement receipt on the back of your prepaid Registered Post envelope (if you're using prepaid labels instead, complete a lodgement document for single or multiple letters)
- Lodge your envelope at a Post Office
- Keep the postmarked receipt or lodgement document, and tax invoice as 'proof of posting' if you need to make an enquiry later
Rigid or inflexible items such as keys, pens, USBs or CDs should never be sent in a regular paper envelope as they could easily be damaged by our sorting equipment or torn from the envelope and lost. Items like these should always be packaged correctly and sent as a parcel. View our packaging hints and tips and domestic parcels.
1 The number of tracking scans will vary depending on how and where the envelope is lodged, processed and delivered. The envelope or label may receive a tracking scan: on lodgement, if lodged over the counter at any Post Office with electronic point of sale (EPOS) or self service terminal (SST); at a processing facility, if processed by automated mail processing equipment; or on delivery, where a tracking scan can be captured.
2 Additional charges apply. Extra Cover provides you with cover for the specified value of your item (up to $5000) if your item is lost or damaged while being carried by Australia Post. Learn more about Extra Cover.
3 Tracking notifications are only available for Registered Post where letters are lodged over the counter or at a self-service terminal, and an email address has been provided.
4 This price is per pack of 10, when you buy 5 or more packs of 10. The total price you pay will vary depending on how many packs of 10 you purchase.
5 Person-to-person article will be delivered to the addressee, except where:
- the addressee is a minor (it will be delivered to a parent or guardian)
- the addressee has given us prior written authority requesting delivery to a nominated person
- it is impractical for us to deliver to the addressee (this is at Australia Post's discretion)
