Import restrictions

If an item is subject to import restrictions, it means that provisions must be met before it will be released from customs in the destination country, territory or region.

We recommend you confirm import restrictions with local authorities before posting:

Somalia requires an import permit for all commercial goods. Before posting any item, senders should confirm that the addressee has the necessary permit. Senders should determine import restrictions from Somalia authorities before posting:

  • Bees
  • Clothing and materials, used
  • Firearms
  • Insect killers
  • Leeches
  • Medicines and drugs
  • Milk, condensed
  • Radio apparatus
  • Saccharine
  • Salt
  • Silkworms
  • Tobacco and tobacco products
  • Weapons and part thereof.

Special documentation

In addition to our customs forms, authorities in the destination country, territory or region require further documentation for some items.

Private packages should be endorsed private- no commercial purpose, or personal effects, or gift only, as appropriate. Commercial goods must be endorsed commercial.

  • International Express (carried via the EMS network) - Parcels delivers only to Mogadishu, Berbera (via Djibouti) and Hargeysa (via Djibouti)

    International Express - Parcels does not deliver to a Post Office Box or Poste Restante. Somalia does not accept International Express - Parcels merchandise. It only accepts Intenational Express documents or business papers.

    International Express and all Air Mail services to Somalia remain suspended, including International Registered Post. Sea mail parcel service is still available.
