Emily - Postal Transport Officer

“When I came on board two years ago as a Christmas casual, I didn’t know what lay ahead for me. Then I moved into my current role. Post is such a large and secure organisation and I like the idea that there are other opportunities within the group. It’s an organisation I can see myself with for a long time. Some people have been here for 40 years and it’s good to know that they’re still so happy!”

It’s first thing in the morning and very dark Sue is walking though the car yard looking for her van.

Background music (runs throughout)
Sue gets into the van and adjusts her seat.
SUE: I can have large parcels, I can have smaller parcels, I can have heavier parcels. If there’s people around and if you ask for help they’ll help you and vice versa, if somebody needs help, I’ll ask them do they need some help if they have quite a van full.

Sue pulls her van into the loading area and gets out of the van.

SUE: and helping hands are good, more hands the better. [laughs] And also it’s safer too of course.

SALLY: My name’s Susan Butler and I’m a transport driver part-time at Thomastown Pick-up and Delivery Centre. I’ve been working for Australia Post for roughly 17 to 18 years.
Sue is driving her van to her first pick up, there are street lights passing by in the early morning light.
SUE: I just feel that they’re a good company to work for. Everyone’s very friendly, I get along with everybody.
Sue’s van backs into the first pick up location.
SUE: I’m a pretty easy going person. And I just enjoy being out on the road as well too.
Sue walks through the depot and collects her letters and a trolley. SUE: You just do what you have to do. And do it the right way and look after your customers. People look after people, and I guess we become a bit of a family cause we’ve been together for quite a while.
Sue pulls up to her second stop and gets her deliveries out of the van and talks with the manager of the Post Office. SUE: So you can just talk to anybody if you need to and that’s good in a workplace to have that.
Sue drives her van to the next location.
SUE: I like what I do so I will be working here for a while.

It's good to have that in a workplace. And I enjoy being out on the road too. You do what you have to do and do it well so you're always looking after your customers."
