Western Union Gold Card

Do you send or receive money overseas with Western Union on a regular basis? If so, you can speed up the transfer process by using a Western Union Gold Card.

A Western Union Gold Card allows you to store and access your details, as well as the details of the people you regularly send money to.

There are many benefits of using a Gold Card.

  • It makes filling in the Western Union Transaction Form easier - you will have fewer fields to complete.
  • There's no need to carry around the details of people you regularly send money to. You can store these details on your Gold Card account profile, and access them each time you complete a money transfer.
  • You can save details for as many regular receivers onto your Gold Card account profile as you like.
  • It's completely free to use, with no registration or annual fees.

Applying for a Western Union Gold Card at Australia Post

  1. Pick up a Western Union Gold Card Transaction Form at any Australia Post retail outlet that offers Western Union® Money TransfersSM .
  2. Tick the "I wish to receive a Western Union Gold Card" box when you are completing your Transaction Form.
  3. Your Western Union Gold Card will be posted directly to you within one month.

Transferring money using your Western Union Gold Card at Australia Post

1. Pick up a Western Union Transaction Form.
These forms are available at 3,200 participating Australia Post retail outlets that offer money transfers. You can use our Post Office Locator tool to find your closest retail outlet that offers Western Union Money Transfers.

2. Complete your form.
As a Western Union Gold Card holder, you only need to complete the following sections:

  • your Gold Card number in the space provided at the top of the form
  • either the green or yellow shaded areas - depending on whether you are sending or receiving money
  • the signature area.

Unless the details you have previously provided have changed, you do not need to spend time filling in any other sections of the form.

3. Place your order and pay for it.
Take your completed Transaction Form along with the money you'd like us to send and your photo ID to our service counter. You can send any amount up to A$10,000 in a single transfer at Australia Post.1

You can pay for your money transfer using:

  • cash
  • EFTPOS (cheque or savings accounts only).

Please note that you can't use a credit card or cheque to pay for Western Union Money Transfers.

Once we complete your transfer we'll provide you with a receipt. This receipt includes your Western Union Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN). Be sure to keep this reference number safe so you can track your transfer.

4. Let your receiver know about your transfer.
Within minutes2, the money you sent will be available for your receiver to collect at any Western Union agent worldwide.

You'll need to provide your receiver with the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) that is printed on your receipt. They will also need to show valid government-issued photo ID (for example, a driver's licence or passport) to collect their funds.

For people under 18 years of age, student identification is accepted for identification requirements in Australia.
