Transferring money with Western Union
Every year, millions of people worldwide use Western Union to send money to support family members back home, rescue travelers in emergencies or as a gift on key occasions so loved ones can treat themselves.

Transferring money in-store
You can send and collect Western Union Money Transfers from more than 3,200 participating Australia Post retail outlets around the country. Simply look for the Bank@Post™ sign at your local retail outlet. Our Post Office Locator can help you find a retail outlet near you.
Steps for completing a Western Union Money Transfer in-store:
1. Fill in a Western Union Money Transfer Transaction Form. Visit a participating Australia Post retail outlet that offers the Western Union Money Transfer service and complete a Transaction Form. If you send money regularly, a Western Union® Gold Card can speed this process up for you.
2. Place your order and pay for it. Present your completed form along with the money you'd like us to send at our service counter. For most countries you can send any amount up to A$10,000 in a single transfer at Australia Post. We'll ask you to provide one of the following forms of valid photo ID when placing your order:
- your passport
- your Australian driver's licence
- a proof-of-age card
- your foreign driver's licence with photo and signature
- your foreign National Identification with photo and signature.
Your identification must be in English.
You can pay for your money transfer using:
- cash
- EFTPOS (cheque or savings accounts only)5.
Please note you can't use a credit card or cheque to pay for Western Union Money Transfers at Australia Post.
Once we complete your transfer we'll give you a receipt. This receipt includes your Western Union Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) - keep this safe so you can track your transfer. Your receiver will need to quote this number when they collect your transfer.
3. Let your receiver know about your transfer. The money you send will be available within minutes4 for your receiver to collect at any Western Union Agent location worldwide. You'll need to provide your receiver with the transaction details including the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) that is printed on your receipt - your receiver can't collect their money without this number. Your receiver will also need to show valid government-issued photo ID when collecting their money; for example, a driver's licence with photograph or a passport. Do not disclose your transaction details, including the MTCN, to anyone other than your intended receiver.
Tracking the progress of your transfer
You can check the progress of your transaction online at Western Union or you can call 1800 501 500 to speak with a Western Union customer service representative.
