Private bags
If you live in a remote or rural area that isn't served by an Australia Post retail outlet, a private bag is the ideal way to get your mail delivered. Please note that private bags are only available to people living outside Australia Post delivery areas.
Your private bag will either be delivered to you by an Australia Post contractor or you may need to collect it in person from the delivery outlet. You can use your private bag to lodge any mail you'd like sent. It's also possible to use your private bag to lodge other transactions with Australia Post.

Mail bag sizes
Two private bag sizes are available:
- large - 900mm x 740mm
- small - 760mm x 460mm
The people at your Australia Post retail outlet will be able to help you decide the size that best suits your needs. Note that you'll need to buy a minimum of two mail bags - one to take with you and one to hand back to us each time you collect your mail. This is so we have an empty bag on hand to sort your next batch of mail for you. Prices for buying your two mail bags depend on the size you choose.
Your annual fee for your private bag service is based on how often you'd like your mail delivered. You can choose:
- delivery 1-3 times per week
- delivery 4-5 times per week
Padlocking your private bag
If you'd like an extra level of security for your mail, we can lock your private bag for you. You'll just need to supply us with a padlock and a duplicate of your key.
