Post office boxes & private bags
Protect your privacy and make sure your mail is completely safe with a post office box or private bag.
- Secure - your mail is kept under lock and key, protected from the weather and unwanted attention until you're ready to collect it.
- Private - you don't need to reveal your street address unless you want to, which helps protect you from identity theft and unwanted visitors.
- Convenient - you can collect your mail whenever you want, with most Australia Post retail outlets providing 24 hour access to post office boxes.
- Consistent - even if you change your street address, your postal address can remain the same.
Choosing a post office box or private bag
You can choose a post office box or private bag to suit both the volume of mail you receive and your location. And we can let you know by email or SMS when you have mail to collect.
- Post office boxes in small, medium and large sizes are installed in most Australia Post retail outlets. A4 and jumbo boxes are also available at some outlets.
- Private bags are an option if you live in a remote or rural area where mail isn't delivered.
- The Mail2Day® alerting service sends you an email or SMS when you have mail to collect from your post office box.
Post Office Locator can help you find out whether your preferred Australia Post retail outlet has post office boxes. To find out which sizes are currently available, or to check whether your preferred Australia Post retail outlet offers private bags or the Mail2day alerting service, ask at the counter or contact us.
