How to send a money transfer
Sending money from an Australia Post retail outlet using a Western Union Money Transfer is simple and fast.
1. Fill in a Western Union Send Money form. Visit any of the 3300 Australia Post retail outlets that offer Western Union Money Transfers and fill in a To Send Money form. If you send money regularly, a Western Union Gold Card can speed this process up for you.
2. Place your order and pay for it. Present your completed form along with the money2 you'd like us to send at our service counter. You can send any amount up to A$10,000 in a single transfer at Australia Post. We'll ask you to provide one of the following forms of valid photo ID when placing your order:
- your passport
- your Australian driver's licence
- a proof of age card
- your foreign driver's licence with photo and signature
- your foreign National Identification with photo and signature.
Your identification must be in English.
You can pay for your money transfer using:
- cash
- EFTPOS (cheque or savings accounts only).
Please note you can't use a credit card or cheque to pay for Western Union Money Transfers.
Once we complete your transfer we'll give you a receipt. This receipt includes your Western Union Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) - keep this safe so you can track your transfer. Your receiver will need to quote this number when they collect your transfer.
3. Let your receiver know about your transfer. The money you send will be available within minutes for your receiver to collect at any Western Union agent worldwide.1 You'll need to provide your receiver with the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) that is printed on your receipt (your receiver can't collect their money without this number). Your receiver will also need to show valid government-issued photo ID when collecting their money (for example, a driver's licence with photograph or a passport).

How to collect a Western Union money transfer from Australia Post
You can collect a Western Union Money Transfer from more than 3300 Australia Post retail outlets.
1. Check your money is ready to collect. You can do this by contacting the person sending you the money or by checking the status of your money transfer online at Western Union.
Make sure you ask your sender for the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN), as you can't collect your money without it. This number is on the receipt your sender will receive when they complete their transfer to you.
2. Go to Australia Post. Visit your nearest participating Australia Post retail outlet and fill in a Western Union To Receive Money form. You'll need to provide your sender's name, the country the money was sent from, the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) and the amount you're expecting.
We'll ask you to provide one of the following forms of valid photo ID when collecting your money:
- your passport
- your Australian driver's licence
- a proof of age card
- your foreign driver's licence with photo and signature
- your foreign National Identification with photo and signature.
Your identification must be in English.
3. Receive your payment. Upon presentation of your completed To Receive Money form and your photo ID, we'll check Western Union's worldwide computer network and make sure that the money is available for payment to you. In most cases, your money can then be paid in minutes.
