NSW Birth, Death and Marriage certificates
You can apply for a standard (non-urgent) NSW birth, death or marriage certificate at more than 100 participating Australia Post retail outlets in NSW and other states.
We can:
- accept your application for a NSW birth, death or marriage certificate
- check your identity
- process your payment
- organise secure delivery of your application data to the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages
- securely deliver your certificate to you once your application has been processed.
How to apply for a NSW birth, death or marriage certificate
To apply for a standard (non-urgent) NSW birth, death or marriage certificate please follow these four steps:
1. Complete your application form
You can fill in an online application form by clicking on the relevant link below. Once you have completed your form, print off a paper copy to take with you to your appointment at a participating Australia Post retail outlet.

2. Choose a participating Australia Post retail outlet
Our Post Office Locator will help you find the nearest Australia Post retail outlet that can process applications for NSW birth, death and marriage certificates. Alternatively, please contact us.
3. Make an appointment at your chosen outlet
To make sure one of our trained staff is available to review your application, we recommend that you make an appointment at your chosen retail outlet.
You can make an appointment by:
- asking at any participating Australia Post retail outlet
- booking online using Post Office Locator
- calling us on 13 POST (13 7678).
If you book online, our booking system can send you a reminder by text or email the day before your appointment.
4. Attend your appointment and pay for your certificate
To help us process your application as quickly as possible, please make sure you've got your application form and all your identity documents ready before you arrive at your interview.
During your interview our fully-trained staff will go through your application with you to make sure it's completed correctly. They'll also check that your proof of identity documents are valid.
We'll ask you to pay your application fee at the time you lodge your application. Payment can be made by:
- cash
- EFTPOS
- MasterCard or Visa.
Please note that we don't accept personal, business or bank cheques.
