100 point ID checks & identity verification

Many organisations require 100-point ID checks or other document based ID checks when you apply for their products or services - for example, opening a bank account, applying for government services, getting a credit card or even buying a mobile phone.

A 100-point ID check is quite simple.  You just need to provide original documents that prove your identity. Different types of identity documents are given a certain number of points. The documents you provide to prove your identity need to add up to at least 100 points. Some organisations may ask you to provide specific or additional original documents to verify your identity. Check the organisation's form or website for instructions on the type of documents they require.

Getting an ID check at Australia Post

  1. Make sure you can do your check at Australia Post - if an organisation requires you to do an ID check, they'll provide you with a form that explains what you need to do. Your form will tell you whether you can get your ID check done at Australia Post - just look for the Australia Post logo.
  2. Choose an outlet - you can do your ID check at more than 3,200 participating Australia Post retail outlets. Post Office Locator can help you find one near you. Simply select 100-point Check or Identity Verification Form from the Application & Form Lodgement drop-down list.  For further information you can also contact us.
  3. Prepare for your ID check - complete your form and make sure you have all the necessary original documents. Your form will include instructions for the type of documents that are required for your particular check.
  4. Complete your ID check - visit your chosen Australia Post retail outlet with your form and your original ID documents. We'll check your form while you wait. In most cases we can check your documents without having to send them to the organisation that requested your ID check. This means you can usually take your original documents with you when you go.

Provided all your documentation is correct, we'll send your form to the organisation that has requested it. We'll also give you a receipt as proof of your ID check. The organisation will then process your form and contact you directly about the service you applied for.

Fees

Some organisations may require an application fee. Any fees will be explained in the application instructions provided by the organisation. If a fee is required, Australia Post will collect it from you when you come in to complete your ID check.
