As soon as you arrive at your destination, you'll find that you often need some cash for taxis, phone calls, or something to eat - and there may not always be an ATM nearby. So organise your travel money before you fly and there is $0 commission1 when purchased from Australia Post.

Collect before you fly

If you order in-store before midday (AEST), your foreign cash will be ready for collection at the same Australia Post retail outlet from 4pm the next business day3 in metro areas (regional areas may take two days). If you order online, you should allow 3-4 business days before collection from your nominated retail outlet.

  • How do I pay for my foreign cash?

If you order foreign cash online, you will need to pay by BPAY® using internet or telephone banking, and nominate your preferred Australia Post retail outlet to collect it from. If you order it in-store, you can pay with cash or EFTPOS (cheque or savings accounts only)4.

  • How long does it take?

We'll confirm your collection date when you place your order. If you order by midday (AEST) at an Australia Post retail outlet, your foreign cash will be ready for collection by 4pm the next business day3 in metro areas (regional areas may take 2 days). If you order online, you should allow 3-4 business days for collection before collection from your nominated retail outlet.

  • What proof of ID will I need?

The only person who can collect your order is you.

When collecting your foreign cash from your nominated Australia Post retail outlet if your total order is worth less than A$2,000 you'll need to show one valid form of government-issued photo ID that shows your signature (such as your driver's licence or passport).

If it is worth more than A$2,000, you'll need to show us two forms of ID:

    • one primary ID that is government-issued with a photo and signature (such as your driver's licence or passport), and
    • one secondary ID with a signature (such as your credit card).

We'll then give you a sealed envelope containing your money, and we recommend you check the contents carefully before you leave our outlet.
