Collecting a Western Union Money Transfer at Australia Post
You can collect a Western Union® Money Transfer from more than 3,200 participating Australia Post retail outlets. Our Post Office Locator can help you find a retail outlet near you.
1. Check your money is ready to collect. You can do this by contacting the person sending you the money or by checking the status of your money transfer online at Western Union.
Make sure you ask your sender for the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN), as you can't collect your money without it. This number is on the receipt your sender receives when they complete their money transfer.
2. Go to Australia Post. Visit your nearest participating Australia Post retail outlet and fill in a Western Union Transaction Form. You'll need to provide your sender's name, the country the money was sent from, the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) and the amount you're expecting.
We'll ask you to provide one of the following forms of valid photo ID when collecting your money:
- your passport
- your Australian driver's licence
- a proof-of-age card
- your foreign driver's license with photo and signature
- your foreign government-issued identification with photo and signature.
Your identification must be in English.
3. Receive your payment. Upon presentation of your completed Transaction Form and your photo ID, we'll check Western Union's worldwide computer network and make sure the money is available for payment to you. In most cases, your money can then be paid in minutes4.
