You should consider your needs and the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) before making a decision to buy insurance. A&G pays APC a commission, which is a percentage of your premium. What is an excess?

An excess is the amount you may have to pay towards each claim, except where you are not at fault and can identify the third party. A basic excess applies to all claims, and you can vary the standard amount when you take out your policy. Additional excesses may apply when the car is driven by someone else who is under 24 years of age, or someone not listed as a driver on your Insurance Certificate.

Please see the Product Disclosure Statement for all the details about your policy, plus the full terms and conditions.

Am I covered if I use my car for private and business use?

Unfortunately, not if your car is used for commercial use.

What happens if I don't provide information about my driving record, past accidents or claims when asked?

This is called non-disclosure and affects the insurer's ability to accurately assess your risk and calculate the correct premium. It can lead to a claim being paid only in part, not being paid at all, or your policy being cancelled.

  • Making a claim

How do I make a car insurance claim?

If you need to make a car insurance claim call 1300 885 996 and one of the claim consultants will help you get back on the road as soon as possible. In most cases you will be able to completely manage your claim over the phone, with no paperwork.

  • No Claims Discount

How can I protect my Rating 1?

You can protect your Rating 1 (maximum No Claims Discount) by selecting our NCD protection option with your comprehensive car insurance policy. This lets you have one car insurance claim per 12-month period of your Australia Post car insurance policy, or up to two claims in three years without affecting your Rating 1.

If you have NCD protection on your Australia Post car insurance policy for two consecutive claim free years, you will qualify for a Rating 1 for life. This means all car insurance claims have no effect on your NCD for as long as you have NCD protection.

You will not lose your NCD on renewal following a window glass claim, or if the other vehicle in a collision is entirely at fault and the driver is identified to us. For other claims, your NCD may be reduced at renewal if you do not take out NCD protection.

What is the difference between a Rating 1, NCD and No Claim Bonus (NCB)?

These are different terms for a scale that insurers use to rank your driving history and risk. Rating 1, NCD and NCB, all refer to a discount that is applied to the full premium.

What is a No Claim Discount (NCD)?

Your No Claim Discount is a way of rewarding safe and experienced drivers with a discount on your car insurance premium. It is calculated by your years of driving experience and claims record. As you gain more years of claim free driving experience, you receive a discount from the full priced premium until it reaches a maximum discount (also known as Rating 1).

  • About your benefits

What personal effects are included in my car insurance?

Personal effects are your personal belongings that are in your car at the time of an accident.

Our comprehensive car insurance covers damage to your personal effects resulting from a collision involving your car. This includes child car seats or baby restraints. Limits do apply.

Terms and conditions apply - see the Product Disclosure Statement for details

What is the difference between your three types of car insurance?

Comprehensive car insurance offers the broadest level of cover, as it covers damage caused by your car to other people's property if you're at fault, and cover for damage or loss to your car up to the value you insure it for.

With Third Party Property, Fire and Theft car insurance, you will get the third party property cover below, plus cover for your own car if it is stolen or catches fire.

Third Party Property Damage car insurance is our basic level of cover. It covers only your liability for damage caused by the car to other people's property, plus a limited amount of cover for the car if damaged in a no fault accident with an uninsured vehicle.

Terms and conditions apply to each type of cover - see the Product Disclosure Statement for details.

To choose the car insurance that suits your needs, go to our comparison page.

What's the difference between a car's agreed value and market value?

Market value is the reasonable cost to replace your vehicle with one of the same make, model, age and condition as your vehicle at the time of loss or damage. It does not include any payment for warranty, stamp duty or transfer costs.

Agreed value is the amount both parties agree to insure your vehicle for during each term of insurance. The value may change each time you renew the policy.

You can decide whether to insure your car at market or agreed value when you get a quote online.

  • Buying insurance online

How can I pay for my car insurance securely online?

You can pay for your car insurance online using either Visa or MasterCard, and choose to pay in monthly premium instalments or with one easy annual payment. If you prefer, you can also set up a monthly direct debit from your bank account.

How long does it take to get car insurance?

In most cases, you can be insured in one quick online session or phone call. Make sure you have details of your car and driving record on hand and it could just take a few minutes. You can be insured from the same day you take out a policy, or you can choose a later date for your cover to begin.
