How to buy your American Express Travellers Cheques at Australia Post
You can buy American Express Travellers Cheques from Australia Post in five simple steps:
1. Find an Australia Post retail outlet near you that sells travel money by using Post Office Locator. Or call 13 POST (13 7678).
2. Bring photo ID when you come in to buy your travellers cheques.
- If your order is under A$2,000 we'll ask you to show us 1 valid form of government-issued photo ID that shows your signature - eg your drivers licence or passport.
- If your order is A$2,000 or over we'll ask you to show us 2 forms of ID:
- one primary form of ID that is government-issued with a photo and signature eg your drivers license or passport
- one secondary form of ID with a signature eg your credit card or bank key card (it must have your signature on it).
3. Place your order - we'll be able to help you choose the most suitable travellers cheques for your intended destination.
4. Pay for your order - we'll calculate your total purchase amount at the exchange rate that's current at the time you place your order. You can pay for your travellers cheques using:
- cash
- EFTPOS (cheque or savings accounts only).
5. Collect your travellers cheques. Once your payment is confirmed, we'll give you an order confirmation. We'll also let you know when your travellers cheques will be ready for you to collect. Generally speaking, if you order before 12 midday they should be ready for collection from the same Australia Post outlet from 4pm the next working day.
The only person who can collect your travellers cheques is you. You'll need to bring in your order confirmation plus the same type of photo ID that you were asked to supply when you placed your order.
We'll then give you a sealed envelope containing your travellers cheques. We recommend that you carefully check the contents and sign each cheque immediately in the top left hand corner. This will help protect you against loss.
