Renew your Australian passport at Australia Post

Overview

You can renew your Australian passport at more than 1,700 participating Australia Post retail outlets around Australia. We'll help ensure your passport application meets Australian Government requirements.

Are you eligible for a passport renewal?

You can apply for a passport using a renewal form if you're an Australian citizen aged 18 years or over and either:
  • have an adult Australian passport that was valid for at least 2 years when issued AND
  • was issued after 1/7/2000 AND
  • was issued in your current name, date of birth and sex

       OR

  • have a child Australian passport that was valid for at least 2 years when issued AND
  • was issued after 1/7/2005 AND
  • you were 16 years or over at the time of issue AND
  • was issued in your current name, date of birth and sex

Circumstances where you must apply for a new passport

If any of the following points apply, you will need to apply for a new passport using a full application form:

  • You're applying for a child passport
  • Your adult passport was issued before 1/7/2000
  • Your passport has been lost, stolen or seriously damaged
  • You've changed your name or other personal details (e.g. gender)

You can complete the passport renewal form online through the Australian Passport Office.

You will then need to print a copy and bring it with you to your passport interview, along with your most recently issued passport and 2 identical photographs that meet the Australian Passport Office's photograph guidelines.

If you prefer, the Australian Passport Office can mail you a hard copy of the renewal form. Phone the Australian Passport Information Service on 13 12 32 to request this.

Please note: Passport renewal forms are not available from Australia Post.

To renew your passport, you'll need to attend an interview at a participating Australia Post retail outlet.There are several ways you can book you passport interview:

At your interview, we'll check your documentation is correct and confirm your identity before sending your application to the Australian Passport Office. The interview should take about 5 minutes.

We can also take your photo at this time.

During your interview, you'll also need to pay your passport application fees.

What to bring to your interview: 

  • Completed 'Passport Renewal Application form' (use black ink if completing by hand)
  • Current passport
  • Two identical colour ID photographs that meet the Australian Passport Office's photograph guidelines 
  • Payment for your passport application fee

Pricing

When you attend your passport interview and once your application has been accepted, you'll need to pay your passport application fee . We accept payments by cash, MasterCard or Visa, or EFTPOS.

Passport fees are set by the Australian Passport Office and are subject to change.
