Different ways to pay

The term postage means the amount you pay to send an item by post. You can show your postage is paid in the following ways:

You can buy stamps in various denominations to cover the postage rate of the mail you're sending.

Self-adhesive stamps are the easiest to use, and you can buy them in bulk from all Australia Post retail outlets and business centres.

Prepaid envelopes and satchels Click to expand Click to collapse

With prepaid envelopes or satchels, you simply address your item and drop it in a street posting box - there's no need to worry about buying stamps separately, as the price includes the postage as well as the cost of the envelope or satchel. You get a discount when you buy prepaid envelopes or satchels in bulk.

A postage paid imprint can be printed directly onto the upper right hand corner of your items (where a stamp would normally be) to show that the postage has been paid. It features the words "POSTAGE PAID AUSTRALIA" and is useful if you want to pay using an Australia Post Business Credit Account, or make large volume lodgements.

Have an Australia Post Business Credit Account? Using the 'Postage Paid Australia' imprint means you pay a cheaper postage rate for Full Rate Mail lodgements (e.g. $0.58 instead of $0.60 for a standard letter).

Many small to medium businesses use postage meters as a convenient way to pay for postage. A meter prints an 'indicia' (markings that show postage has been paid by the sender) on your mail, showing the value of the postage.

So there's no need to stick on a stamp or preprint the words "Postage Paid Australia" - and this earns you a discount on Full Rate Mail (e.g. $0.58 instead of $0.60 for a standard letter).

Once your postage meter is set up, you can download postage at any time. You also get a 2.5% rebate every time you reset your meter.

Postage can be charged to an Australia Post Business Credit Account or organised with the postage meter supplier.

Australia Post Business Credit Account

We can set up your account to give you a convenient way to pay for your postage and postal services. We charge costs directly to your account, and invoice you the account balance monthly.
Cash, debit and credit cards, and cheques

You can also pay by cash, debit and credit card, or cheque. If you want to pay by company or personal cheque, you'll need to apply for approval first by calling your local Australia Post retail outlet or 13 11 18.
