How to buy car insurance online
Buying car insurance in 4 simple steps
Researching and comparing car insurance online is a fast, efficient and cost-effective way for you to be well informed before you buy. Follow the steps below to ensure you get the right amount of protection.
Step 1 - Plan ahead
Understand what kind of cover you require through research and find policies that fit your situation and budget.
Familiarise yourself with the different types of insurance products available and the terminology used by car insurance companies (see our car insurance glossary).
Look through websites with useful information such as the Australian Government's Money Smart website, which provides a good overview on car insurance.
Step 2 - Compare car insurers
Car insurance providers can offer several insurance policies with different levels of coverage for you and your car. These policies range from third party vehicle insurance, which covers damage to other people's property, to comprehensive car insurance, which offers a greater level of protection, including theft and damage to your own car and other people's property if your car is in an accident (including fire),
Your research will also help you find and compare Australian car insurers that offer policies with extra cover, including hiring a rental car for unlimited days or even windscreen protection.
Step 3 - Find the best policy
It's important that you find the policy that suits you and your situation. Make sure you read over the policy details and review extra cover options for any specific extras you need. In some cases, you can pay an additional premium to cover expensive personal items such as jewellery and laptops.
Also, if you have medical conditions, check if there are any exclusions for these on the policy.
Step 4 - Get a quote
Australia Post offers three car insurance policies, and getting an online quote is quick and easy. Only basic details are required, such as your car model, parking location and driver details in order to get a quote.
If you have any issues or questions, including discussing similar policies with comparable prices, you can call Australia Post's Customer Support team on 1300 858 747.
This advice is general in nature, and doesn't consider your personal situation. You should consider your own needs and the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) before making a decision to buy the product.
