AFL player pathway
AFL Auskick is the Australian Football League's key introductory program for primary school-aged students and their families. In this program players will participate in warm-up games, skill activities, skill games and a match program based on appropriately modified rules. Importantly, children will play Australian Football in a fun and safe environment and make plenty of friends too!
AFL Junior allows young players, aged 8 to 12, to experience a variety of positions from full-back to full-forward. Junior leagues and clubs provide appropriately structured matches to enable children to further develop their skills. Match rules are modified to ensure the emphasis is clearly placed on skill development, safety and enjoyment. AFL Junior also allows players to work with a dedicated coach.
AFL Youth is for boys aged 12 to 17 years and provides graded competitions and a club environment for players of all abilities and aspirations.
AFL Youth for Girls allows girls up to the age of 14 to play in a mixed-gender competition or in a Youth Girls Competition for U/14, U/16 or U/18. It must be noted, this pathway may vary between states.
