Letter writing ideas and tips

So, you want to write to an AFL Multicultural Ambassador (or any other AFL player or club) and you're not sure how to get started? Well this section is for you.

How do I write my letter?

Here are four ways to write your letter:

  1. You can use one of the "Let's write a letter" interactives found in the Multimedia fun section. These are step-by-step guides to writing a letter and you can even choose a colourful letterhead for the top of the page.

There are two interactives to choose from: Let's write a letter to an AFL Multicultural Ambassador has a letterhead for each ambassador, and Let's write a letter to an AFL club or player has a letterhead for each club.

  2. You can use a computer to type your letter, then download a letterhead (see the bottom of this page) to copy to the top of it.

  3. You can print out one of the fun letter writing templates below and write your letter on that.

  4. You can grab your favourite pen and notepaper and start writing.

  5. Remember, you can use a pseudonym (a made-up name) in your letter if you wish.

What should I write about in my letter?

Here are some hints on what you might like to include in your letter to an ambassador (or any player or club):

  • Tell them why you are writing to them.

  • Wish them well for a special event or a football milestone (such as playing 100 games or playing in a final).

  • Tell them a bit about yourself (your family background or heritage, the sports you like to play).

  • If you are new to Australia, tell them about your experience of settling in to a new country. Many of the ambassadors have also had this experience.

  • Let them know that you will be watching them on TV or supporting them at a match.

  • Tell them how you like to contribute to your local community.

  • Tell them what Australian Football means to you and the role it plays in your life.

Here is a sample letter to give you some inspiration:

Where do I send my letter to a Multicultural Ambassador?

If you write to any of the AFL Multicultural Ambassadors, please use the address on the envelope below:

PO Box 24413
MELBOURNE VIC 3001

Receive a postcard in the mail

Australia Post is working with the ambassadors to make sure you receive a reply in the mail (you must live in Australia though).

Remember to include your name and address (written clearly) on the back of your envelope because without your name and address, we won't know where to send it!

Where do I send my letter to another AFL player or club?

You can send letters to any other player or club. To do so you will need to use the club's address which you can find in About AFL clubs in the About the AFL section. Note, you may or may not receive a response from the club.

However, if you would like to receive a Multicultural Player Ambassador reply postcard in the mail, please address your envelope to:

PO Box 24413
MELBOURNE VIC 3001

Remember to include your name and address (written clearly) on the back of your envelope because without your name and address, we won't know where to send it!
