Salmat Data Sciences (SDS)

Overview of SDS

Salmat Data Sciences (SDS) is part of the Digital division within Salmat.

Listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in 2002, with revenue in excess of AUD$500 million, Salmat has been operating for almost 30 years. We employ more than 5,000 employees, providing excellent service and solutions to Top 100 companies across Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

Salmat is the evolution of one-to-one communications in Australia. We provide solutions through our four business divisions - Business Process Outsourcing, Targeted Media Solutions, Customer Contact Solutions and Digital.

Key to our development is our commitment to remain the market leader in this industry, by continually reviewing and introducing new technologies.

For over 20 years, SDS has been actively developing a range of proprietary data quality tools specifically designed to maximise the value and consistency of customer data, particularly for marketing purposes.

These tools are primarily focussed on the areas of:

  • address validation and standardisation
  • address Quality Assessment
  • name standardisation and identification of genders and titles
  • de-duplication

Our aim in providing these comprehensive services is to identify opportunities for clients relative to:

  • improving data consistency (standardised formatting of contact details)
  • minimising instances of duplicate records on file
  • reducing the incidence of returned mail
  • maximising postal discounts
  • increasing the chance of making direct contact with clients

MailPoint

MailPoint is our powerful and flexible AMAS-certified address validation engine. It parses, standardises and validates address data and then attaches the DPID where this can be identified.

MailPoint firstly parses each address, standardising the structure of each address and identifying errors. Then, using the Postal Address File (PAF) as reference, it applies the AMAS rules in order to append the relevant DPID.

The MailPoint process reveals a wide range of diagnostics on the integrity of an address and its ability to be DPID-appended. Diagnostic results are output with the original address information along with the corrected/updated address information.

Usage

MailPoint is used to manipulate millions of addresses every day in batch and transactional environments. It is primarily used to supply valid, DPID-appended addresses to mail customers, extracting the maximum available discount intended by Australia Post's rules.

Full reconciliation reports are produced by MailPoint upon completion of every job. These reports provide clients with an insight into the overall quality of their stored address data and a summary of the results of the MailPoint process.

MailPoint is also a precursor to MatchPoint, SDS Data Insights proprietary matching and de-duplication module, increasing the chance of matching and de-duplicating records based on address-related components.
