Proven experience

When you entrust an organisation to conduct identity services on your behalf, you want to know that it is part of their everyday business.

Australia Post has conducted millions of identity related transactions over many years. In fact, we conduct around 1.3 million passport interviews alone per annum. We're the leading organisation in Australia with unmatched credentials and experience in providing identity verification and associated services to a range of government and business sector organisations.

The transactions we conduct are often complex requiring a high level of accuracy, so we have developed our own software tool called ID Wizard.

This technology provides a reliable and consistent means of guiding counter operators through the identification process, contributing to increased compliance. The ID Wizard includes structured rules and prompts to support your identity checking compliance requirements enabling the details of identity documents to be electronically recorded.

Our technology systems and internal business processes are geared to support efficient verification procedures, as well as provide transaction and ID document detail reporting which is essential for you in managing your identity related program.

Our experience in Identity Services

  • Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade - we've been conducting Australian passport interviews on behalf of DFAT in Australia for over 20 years. We perform more than 90% of all Australian passport application interviews and we also provide interviewer services at DFAT passport offices.
  • British High Commission and US Embassy - we provide British passport application services for the British High Commission and US visa payment services for the US Embassy.
  • WA Police - we process National Police Certificate (NPC) and firearms applications on behalf of WA Police. Applicants visit a participating Australia Post retail outlet, complete an application form and provide their identification documents. Australia Post's systems interface with the CrimTrac database, prints the NPCs on security paper and mails them directly to the applicant.
  • State government - we accept Licence to Perform High Risk Work applications on behalf of WorkCover NSW and the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations QLD. This involves a form completeness check, performing a customised identity check and scanning all data for transfer to the departments for certificate production.
  • AML / CTF checks for financial institutions - since the introduction of the Financial Transactions Reports Act 1988 and Anti Money-Laundering & Counter Terrorism Financing legislation, Australia Post has provided AUSTRAC compliant identity checks for many organisations including financial institutions, finance providers and gaming companies.
  • Transport South Australia - we provide Transport South Australia with end-to-end functionality and hardware for the provision of licencing services for drivers, shooters, boaters and taxi drivers. This includes digital image capture, digitised signature pads and card production (both centrally and on-site). This system integrates securely with back end stakeholder systems to perform verification checks and for data delivery.
  • Maritime Security Identification Cards - we process these cards on behalf of 1-Stop and Veritas who are authorised by AusCheck to issue these cards. We perform proof of identity for both clients and also scan and transmit applicant data in electronic format to 1-Stop.
  • Working with Children Card applications - we process these applications on behalf of the Department of Community Development in Western Australia and the Department of Justice in Victoria. Australia Post prints and distributes the application forms to our retail outlets. Applicants pick up a form from the outlet, return with it completed and have a photo taken at the time of application. We then perform a form completeness and identity check before providing secure delivery of scanned applicant data so that a physical card can be produced.

Australia Post is trusted by the community and we're highly visible with our extensive network of outlets. We offer ID services at more than 3,300 Australia Post retail outlets - all of these outlets have front line staff who are trained in providing ID services. This allows you to offer your customers a reliable service and convenient location for identity and verification services.
