Locked bags
Locked bags hold larger mail volumes than post office boxes, and are ideal for your business if you receive a significant quantity of mail on a regular basis. They're also a good choice if you need to cater for mail peaks throughout the year - for example, when running competitions, campaigns or promotions.
Because they're secured with a padlock, locked bags offer an added level of security for your mail from the time it's picked up from our outlet, until it reaches your business premises.
Accessing locked bags
You can collect your locked bag any time during the business hours of your chosen Australia Post retail outlet. Post Office Locator can help you check when your outlet is open. You can also arrange for a courier to collect your locked bag for you.
Locked bag sizes
There are two mail bag sizes available:
- large, 900mm x 740mm
- small, 760mm x 460mm.
For advice on the size that best meets your needs, ask at any outlet or call 13 POST (13 7678).
Locked bag fees
Fees for locked bags are based on their location. You'll need to buy a minimum of two mail bags - one to take with you and one to hand back to your outlet each time you collect your mail. This is so we have an empty bag on hand at all times to sort your next batch of mail for you.
Providing padlocks
If you decide to lease a locked bag, you'll need to supply your Australia Post retail outlet with a padlock and a duplicate of your key.
Applying for a locked bag
Once you've decided on the size and location that best suits your business, it's easy to apply for a locked bag.
Combined box and locked bag service
If you already have a post office box but find the volume of mail you receive has outgrown your box size, a combined post office box and locked bag is a good solution. This option allows you to retain your current postal address while substantially increasing your mail-holding capacity.
Terms and conditions apply to post office boxes, locked bags and Mail2Day.
