Competition Mail

Australia Post's Competition Mail® is a service available for customers running competitions. We set you up with a free post office box for the duration of your competition and you receive a rebate for every entry received (once the minimum number of entries is reached). This allows you to offset the promotional costs of your competition.

Rebate rate

The amount of your rebate depends on the state the competition is held and the number of entries received.

Maximum rebate for competitions held wholly or in part in Victoria, New South Wales or Queensland - 7.7 cents per response.

Minimum number of entries needed to receive rebate:
First 3 months of competition     15,000
Each subsequent month             5,000

Maximum rebate for competitions held wholly or in part in South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory, Tasmania or Australian Capital Territory - 4.4 cents per response.

Minimum number of entries needed to receive rebate:
First 3 months of competition     5,000
Each subsequent month             2,000

How to get started

  1. Download and complete the Competition Mail application form at least four weeks prior to the competition starting. You need to return the completed form to the address specified for your state. You will generally be advised of the outcome of your application within two working days.

In some cases you will need to register your competition with the appropriate state and territory authorities to obtain relevant permits. However, you can still apply for Competition Mail while your permit is pending.

  2. Once your mail application has been approved, we'll supply you with a free post office box address for the duration of the competition. During the competition we'll also regularly record the number of entries you've received and supply you with a written delivery record.

  3. Once the competition closes, download and complete the Competition Mail claim for rebate form and return it to the address specified in your State (addresses are listed on the application form) with the written statement of the number of entries received from Australia Post. Your rebate payment will take approximately 45 days to process (in line with Australia Post's regular payment cycles) and will be paid by cheque or directly into your nominated bank account.
