Water

Australia Post's water consumption is relatively low compared with other large organisations.

We mainly use water in our kitchens, bathrooms and air conditioning systems at offices and operational sites. A small number of sites also use water to wash vehicles and maintain gardens.

Reducing water consumption at our major facilities

Recent initiatives that have been implemented to reduce water consumption at our major facilities include installing:

  • a reticulated water recycling system that treats and reuses water for use in the truck wash bay at the Melbourne Parcels Facility in Ardeer
  • rainwater tanks to provide water for the toilet system and gardens at Toowoomba Mail Centre
  • a 328,000-litre rainwater tank to provide water for the toilet system and gardens at Dandenong Letters Centre
  • a new truck wash system that recycles water at the Dandenong Letters Centre.

WaterMAP

The Victorian Government requires non-residential water users who consume more than 10 mega-litres of water annually to implement a Water Management Action Plan (waterMAP). Our Dandenong Letters Centre fell into this category.

In December 2007 we submitted an action plan to the government, followed by a progress report in December 2008. For further information on our progress regarding our water consumption, please refer to WaterMAP (pdf 154kb).
